Back Story

Christy, Jesse, and I took the Amtrak Crescent from the train depot in Anniston AL to New Orleans for a week of adventure and photography. This train station is a classical revival depot and is listed in the National Registry of Historical Places. Jesse loves to ride the train. Heck, we all love to ride the train. We left August 8, 2013 and returned August 14th. Unfortunately Jeremy couldn’t go this time. He had to work.
Christy’s father was kind enough to drive us to the train station and pick us up so we wouldn’t have to leave a vehicle parked there for a week.
We stayed at our usual place, the historic 905 Royal Hotel in the French Quarter. The 905 Royal was built in the late 1890’s.

Back Story

Christy, Jesse, and I ran off on a spur of the moment adventure to The French Quarter in New Orleans.  We left on Tuesday and returned on Friday. We stayed at the Wyndham on Royal Street.  I was finally able to get a few pictures from above the third floor.  It was quite an adventure.  All trips to NOLA are.  lol

The Rest of the Fish Story

Posted on 2:38 PM by jr cline | 0 comments

Pictures from our trip to the Audubon Aquarium part three.

This fellow is lucky he lives here.  I think he would have a difficult time making it in the wild. Then again, maybe not.

Peek-a-boo

The seahorses are such interesting creatures.  54 species.  WOW!  I could watch them for hours.  The genus name, "Hippocampus" comes from the Ancient Greek hippos meaning "horse" and kampos meaning "sea monster". ~ Wikipedia  That makes them horse sea monsters.

One excited boy.

A beautiful fish and a deadly fish.

For the Birds

Pictures from our trip to the Audubon Aquarium part two.

I enjoy watching the penguins.

The macaws are in the tropical rain forest area on the top floor.  The parakeets are in a big aviary on a lower floor.  The parakeets are friendly if you purchase a little food for a bribe.  The food comes attached to a stick like the one in the picture below.

(it's a good film)
Be sure to take time to play with the puppets.

We all had a great time at the aquarium.

Jellies and Friends

Posted on 12:16 PM by jr cline | 0 comments

Here are the first pictures from our trip to the Audubon Aquarium.

Jellyfish are one of my favorite subjects to photograph in aquariums.

I was disappointed with the jellyfish pictures I got on this trip.  I just wasn't able to get many I liked.

Jesse had a great time playing with and around this pressure suit.

We all had a great time at the aquarium.

Gators

A swamp tour wouldn't be complete without seeing alligators.

This one swam up to the tour boat while we were still docked.
Jesse:  "It's big!"
It obviously had no fear of humans.

I think the tour guide called this one snag.  I could totally be wrong about that.  The white on the end of its nose (if that is the right thing to call it) is an egg tooth that never fell off.

Want to touch it Jesse?

This baby alligator was longer than Jesse is tall.  It isn't any wonder he was hesitant and careful.  I'd be the same way with one as long as I am tall.

Swamp Tour

Posted on 8:08 PM by jr cline | 0 comments

I finally managed to go on a swamp tour.  We chose Jean Lafitte Swamp Tours for this excursion.  We made a good choice and I'd use this company again.

They picked us up near the 905 Royal Hotel where we were staying.  The 45 minute ride was a lot of fun.

The boats were large, comfortable and clean.  Drinks and snacks were available.  It wasn't crowded that day so there was plenty of room to get up and move around.

This is our captain and tour guide.  He was a local and was informative and humorous. He obviously loved the swamps and everything that lived there.

Thank you momma.  I love you.

A Ride in the Woods

Posted on 4:21 PM by jr cline | 0 comments

Christy and I went for a ride in the woods. We mounted a GoPro Hero 3 to the hood of her truck.
This is the video she put together from the footage.

Enjoy

A Park on Frenchman Street, New Orleans

Posted on 4:06 AM by jr cline | 0 comments

We spent some time on Frenchman Street while we were in New Orleans. Among the many things we did while Christy was getting a sugar skull tattoo,  Jesse and I played in the local park.

Jesse was have an amazing amount of fun.

All things have to end and the park closed at sunset.  A gentleman on a bicycle came through and asked us all to leave so he could lock the gates.

Insectarium

Posted on 8:05 AM by jr cline | 0 comments

Here are a few pictures from the visit to the Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium.

I don't have a clue what kind of centipede this is (or even if it is a centipede). Regardless, it is an amazing creature.

I do recognize the Koi.

Jesse loved the butterflies in the butterfly garden.  He chased them a bit but never tried to catch one and he was careful not to step on the ones that had landed on the floor.  Seemed like there were more this time than on previous visits.

No butterfly garden is complete without a lot of pretty flowers.
